How about somebody connects your home to the cloud and makes it smart?
I know that e.g. Philips is starting to do it with light bulbs, and there are probably a few smallish companies that do it with other appliances, too. But in my opinion the success of such a project rests on how ubiquitous, reliable and trustworthy that provider is. I feel like it's time for some major provider of cloud services to jump on this.

What for?
- Imagine that you could regulate the heating from your smartphone (saving energy when nobody's home and predicting the time of arrival at home and turning up the heating beforehand).
- Imagine that your fridge would know what products it contains, generate shopping lists for you and remind you that you still need to buy some fresh bread for the weekend.
- Imagine that lights turn off and on automatically based on your smartphone location.
- Imagine your plumbing / electrical wiring / ... had sensors and was able to tell you the cause of problems.
- Imagine you could place a moisture sensor into your plant pots and get automatic instructions on when to water your plants.
